Bir & Billing are twin destinations 14 km from each other. Both have their own importance and incomplete without each other. Billing is at the altitude of 2400 mt from sea level and considered as best paragliding take off point in the world. Paragliding here is totally safe and full of panoramic view of Dhauladhar mountain range of Himalaya and beautiful Kangra valley. Billing has only few tea and maggi joints. Billing has no accommodation facilities and restaurant. Billing is travelled by paragliding and trekking lovers. Billing is considered as gateway for Bhangal valley which is most tribal part of Himachal.
Bir Billing is 550 km away from Delhi, 70 km from Dharamshala, 170 km from Manali and 70 km from Mandi. Whereas Bir is at the altitude of 1350 mts from sea level and landing area for paragliding at Chougan ground. Bir has many hotels and restaurants for stay. Camp Oak view is 3 km from landing area. Bir provide monastery walk. Walk along the colony road, restaurants and many more to see. Bir landing area is a happening place as many paragliders landing here all the day. Landing area and colony is always full of tourists.
Itinerary for Trekking, Mountain Biking & Stay in Bir Billing valley:-.
Day 0:- Volvo bus from Delhi to Bir.
Delhi to Bir. (550 km/10-12 hr).
Arrive Majnu ka tilla (5 km from ISBT bus stand kashmiri gate) opp Gurudwara, board volvo bus at 1930 hrs to Bir. Overnight journey in volvo bus.
Day 1:- Arrive Bir, Mountain Biking and overnight stay in Camp Oak View, Bir.
Arrive Bir and transfer to Hotel, relax for 1st half of the day, later, half day mountain Biking (cycling) session to Palpung Sherabling Monastery, Bhattu. Evening free to explore monasteraries around and colony area. Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel in Bir.
Day 2:- Drive from Bir to Billing ( 16 km/1 hr).
Post breakfast drive to Billing for an hour for the starting point of the trek. Billing is at the altitude of 2430 mts from sea level. Billing is take-off point of the paragliding, but due to monsoon paragliding is closed.
Billing to Raj Gundha to Bada Gran (18 km / 6-7 hr, 2500 mts.)
Start trek with gaining some instant height to reach a wide trail. Trekking is considered easy. Trek is passing through forest of Deodara, Rhododendron, blue pine, green Oak, brown Oak and silver fir trees. Trail gradually goes till 2700 mts at Channa ghat mod, which is the highest point of the trek. Trek is mudy at some points due to monsoon rain. Channa is view point of Thamsar pass and Dhouladhar mountain range. Views depend upon the clouds and fog, clouds are low in monsoon. Later trail goes for downhill till Raj Gundha village and then Kukar gundha village; These village are tribal villages and villagers are semi-nomadic in nature. After Gundha villages trail reach to Uhl rivers where you have to cross suspension bridge to reach other side of river. Later trail enter to vegetable farms before reaching Badagran village. Bada gran is road head.
Raj Gundha Village Raj Rajgundha Village Located 12 km from Billing at the banks of Uhl River at an altitude of 2500 mt. from sea level. Raj Gundha is considered as most beautiful village among all other tribal villages of valley and other parts around. Raj gundha is a picturesque tribal village of semi nomads, the villagers move down to Bir during winters, farming in Rajgundha from April to November. A part of the historical Chota Bhangal region, the villagers are known as Bhangalia. Rajgundha is a 4 – 5 hour from Billing, the alternative route requires driving 70 km. from Bir to Badagran village from where the Rajgundha is a 2 hour hike. One can trek to Thathi village from Raj gundha and then to Camp Oak view in single day through dense forest full of wildlife, including the rare Monal.
Badagran Village. Badagran is a quintessential old Himalayan village with houses made of stone and wood. This village is recently connected by road with the other lower area of Himachal Pradesh. Villagers live on livestock and the vegetables they grow. Valley is tremendously fertile to grow vegetables and pulses. The area is disconnected with other world in winters due to heavy snow fall. Bada Bhangal is considered as one of the last bastions of tribal life in Himachal, accessible for 11 months in a year.
Drive Badagran to Bir via Barot. (70 km/2-3 hr, drive)
Drive from Badagran to Bir, reach Bir and transfer to hotel.
Day 3:- Paragliding and departure
Morning paragliding session and later free to explore Bir, board bus at 1830 hrs.
Day 4:- Arrive Delhi.
