Barot Valley, Trekking and Nature
Barot valley is a very beautiful tourist place in Himachal Pradesh , India . It is located in mid Himalayan region and is 45 K.M. from Joginder Nagar and 66 K.M. from Mandi , the district headquarter .
Barot valley does not have 5 star facilities but the nature is here at 7 star level . If anyone wants a place full of natural beauty and calmness and wants to have some time away from crowds , pollution and daily tensions , then this is the right place for him.
You can do a lot of things here like camping , trekking , picnic , games ,trout fishing etc . In Barot there are 6 home stays and guest houses and 3 government guest houses here for staying .
How to reach Barot valley :
By road, route from Delhi will be Delhi – Chandigarh – Bilaspur – Mandi – Ghatasni – Barot valley (About 500 km)
From Pathankot, the route will be Pathankot – Palampur – Jogindernagar – Ghatasni- Barot Valley (about 206 km)
By Train, Delhi – Pathankot and the narrow gauge track from Pathankot – Jogindernagar – Ghatasni then by road to Barot
By air : Barot Valley is 127 km from Bhuntar airport near Kullu. You can also reach Barot from Gaggal airport near Kangra, approximate distance is 97 km
Ghatasni is place where road to Barot branches off from NH 20 { Between Jogindernagar to Mandi }
Info about Haulage trolley system : The haulage trolley system at Barot Valley and JoginderNagar built in 1926 by English engineer Col. Betty for carrying construction material of Shanan power house reservoir and tunnel from Jogindernagar to Barot Valley( district Mandi , Himachal Pradesh , India ) . It is a unique type of trolley based on pulley system . control room is at top of hill and use a huge motor to operate trolley . A thick metal cable pulls this trolley to top of mountain .
This trolley takes you from Jogindernagar to Barot from height of 4130 ft. to 8300 ft to “Head gear” , topmost station of haulage trolley , from there trolley goes down to Barot Valley.
It has four stations and only one station is operate-able currently ie it is in bad shape and rusting . this trolley can be used for tourism purpose but govt. is doing nothing for such a big attraction . If any news channel seeing it or any people can do anything for it , please save it from diminishing or we will loose such thing which has capability for becoming a national heritage site .
