Paragliding Season Start from 16 September to 14 July for 10 months every year.
15 July to 15 September – Paragliding activity closed.
Adventure activity of Paragliding closed for 2 months in monsoon from the period of 16 July to 15 September every Year. This ban on paragliding for 2 months imposed by Himachal Tourism Department. Other activities partially open as tourism movement is low. Roads are open in monsoon as well. Roads are good and Bir lies near to National highway 154.
16 September to 15 December.
Paragliding season start from 16 September post monsoon and booking open. Even though weather till last week of September still raining and cloudy and uncertain. Last week of September to 1st week of Oct makes smooth operation of Paragliding. And later half of October to mid of December is Bir Billing. Conditions of paragliding is quite favourable of long flights or Cross country flying. Pilots from all over the world travel to Bir Billing for Paragliding and enjoy flying over Himalayas. Tandem Paragliding for 3 hrs or full day also can be done during this period.
Mid December to Mid February.
Last half of December is bit cold and chances of Snowfall in valley of Billing. Paragliding is operational for this season as well. If one want to see snow and fly over snow covered mountain, do travel 1st half of January. Weather is cold but amazing time to do paragliding over snow. Some time road to take off closed due to heavy snowfall, then pilots carry gliders and trek for few km and fly. Its safe with experienced pilots. Roads to Bir Billing is open as Bir experience negligible snowfall and all stay options in Bir only. We go to Billing where heavy snowfall, only for Paragliding activity.
Mid February to Mid April.
Condition become quite well for long flights during this period as well. Rush of tourist is low till April before school holidays. Valley during this period is very beautiful. Red Flowering in Rhododendron trees all over. Trees has fresh leaves and views are clear. Days are bit 25 to 30 degree in April but nights are cold.
Mid April to last week of June.
This is busy season for Bir Billing as so many tourists visiting Billing for pleasant weather of here. As Bir is located in foothills of Himalayas its pleasant weather but temperature can raise to 35 in few hot sunny days but wind is quite pleasant and nights are cold even in May and June. Last half of June is pre-monsoon time and rain occasionally. In last week monsoon clouds cover paragliding take off point Billing which increase waiting time there as visibility low there. Pilots reach there and wait for clearing clouds to fly from there.
Last week of June to 15 July.
Weather is uncertain and paragliding is uncertain as well. It’s mostly rain and dense clouds at Billing. If travelling in this season, please have some spare days for wait for good weather. If monsoon arrive early then sometimes tourism department restrict paragliding accordingly. Paragliding activity closed for 2 month from 15 July onward due to monsoon. If weather is good for paragliding after 15 July, even then paragliding not allowed.
