What Is Paragliding in Bir Billing?
Most visitors fly tandem paragliding. Licensed Pilots and Tourist share one glider: pilot controls everything, and you sit in the harness as a passenger. Once you’re in the air, your hands are free and the harness works like a chair.
Bir Billing is popular because of its favourable geographical positioning for Paragliding. The Dhauladhar mountains stand behind it, the open Kangra Valley lies in front, and the winds are good for long flights. The area hosted the Paragliding World Cup twice.

- Full-length pants and laced shoes (no sandals)
- Sunglasses, a cap and sunscreen

Is Paragliding in Bir Billing Safe?
Paragliding is an adventure sport and always carries some risk. You can lower that risk a lot by choosing your team carefully. Bir Billing has pilots of all experience levels, and not all teams look after their gear equally well.
Check these before you book
- Is the operator registered? Ask for the Himachal Tourism registration number. Ours is DMA/PO-kgr-37/2026-955.
- Does your pilot have a licence and real experience? A licence is the minimum. Experience handles changing winds, take-offs and landings.
- Is the equipment well kept? A glider has a safe life of about 200 to 300 flying hours. Lines, harnesses and carabiners should be replaced on time, and you should get a helmet.
- Is the price suspiciously low? Very cheap flights can mean the operator is cutting costs on maintenance.
- Is the pilot sober? Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited before flying.
- No stunts. They put heavy stress on the glider and are banned by the paragliding association.
At Travel Bir Billing, all pilots are licensed and registered with Himachal Tourism. Our team is led by chief flying instructor Arvind Paul, who started flying in 2001 and has won several national titles.
What If the Weather Is Bad?
Rain, snow, thunder or strong winds can stop flights.
- Full refund if paragliding cannot happen because of weather
- Free rescheduling to the next possible slot, same day or next day
There is no refund for no-shows, or for missed slots when you haven’t informed the team.
